Winnie-the-Pooh is a small, round, golden teddy bear who lives in the Hundred Acre Wood with his friends. He’s gentle, unfailingly polite, and famously “a Bear of Very Little Brain,” which really just means he thinks slowly and simply. Pooh loves honey above all else, hums little songs to himself, and tends to wander into minor mishaps—often because he’s following his stomach. Despite his simple outlook, he’s brave in quiet ways and deeply loyal; when a friend needs help, Pooh shows up, even if he doesn’t entirely understand the plan.

His world is cozy and child-sized. He spends his days visiting Piglet (timid but kind), bouncing with Tigger (energetic and boastful), comforting Eeyore (gloomy but dignified), getting tangled in Rabbit’s rules, listening to Owl’s windy advice, and sharing gentle adventures with Kanga and Roo. Christopher Robin is the boy who anchors them all; with him, Pooh’s small adventures turn into stories about friendship, imagination, and the everyday magic of being young.

On the page (A. A. Milne’s stories from the 1920s), Pooh is an Edwardian toy come to life—soft-spoken, literal, and unintentionally wise. In the popular screen versions, he’s usually shown wearing a red shirt (a detail added later), moving slowly, speaking in a warm, breathy voice, and pausing to think with a tiny “Oh, bother.” Whether in book or film, his charm is the same: simple kindness, a steady heart, and a honey pot never far from reach.
