Mass media includes all the "tools" we have for communicating with large numbers of people—televisions, radio, films, online services, magazines, and newspapers. All carry messages that reach masses of people, in contrast to letters, telephone calls, and one-to-one conversations, known as interpersonal media. The mass media refers to the people and organizations that provide news and information for the public. Traditionally, these were mainly newspapers, television, and radio. Today, computers play a very big role. The Internet is a computer system that lets people receive and exchange information about anything. Ordinary post has been taken over by email, which stands for electronic mail because it is sent and received via a computer. It allows people to send messages to each other quickly and cheaply. Ordinary post is now called "snail mail," and one wonders if the postman's job is under threat of extinction.

Mass media are all the means and technologies that allow us to communicate with a large audience. This includes television, radio, films, newspapers, magazines, and online platforms. The main goal of mass media is to reach many people at once, unlike interpersonal communication such as phone calls or face-to-face conversations, which are private and involve only a few participants.

Traditionally, mass media meant newspapers, radio, and television — the main sources of information and news for the public. However, with the development of technology, computers and the Internet have become central to modern communication. The Internet allows people to access and share information on any topic from almost anywhere in the world.

One major change brought by the Internet is the way people exchange personal messages. Instead of sending letters through traditional postal services, most people now use email — electronic mail sent through computers. It’s faster, cheaper, and more convenient. Because of this shift, regular postal mail has even earned the nickname "snail mail," suggesting it’s slow and outdated. This transformation raises the question of whether traditional mail delivery, and even the postman’s job, might eventually disappear.
