Football (soccer) is my favourite sport. It has a long history: games with a ball were played in ancient China, Greece and Rome, but modern football rules were formed in England in the 19th century. The first official football association was created in 1863.

Rules and equipment: Two teams of 11 players try to score goals by kicking a ball into the opponent's net. The game lasts 90 minutes with a break. Players wear jerseys, shorts, shin guards and boots. The only equipment needed is a ball and two goals.

Famous players and championships: Legends like Pelé, Diego Maradona, Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo have made history. The most prestigious tournament is the FIFA World Cup, held every four years. There are also continental championships like the UEFA European Championship and club competitions like the UEFA Champions League.
