Grammar: Present Simple and Present Continuous. 2. Look at the highlighted verbs in the sentences. Answer the questions.
1) I think you should put some sun cream on your body.
2) I hope your pie is OK.
a) What tense are the highlighted verbs?
b) When are the actions happening? Now / usually?
c) Can we use the Present Continuous with these verbs?
d) What tense do we use with these verbs?
e) What other verbs can you find in the dialogue which don't have the Present Continuous tense form?
We don't use the Present Continuous with the following verbs: like, love, hate, prefer, understand, hope, think, believe, need, smell, know, want.

a) Present Simple.
b) These verbs describe states (opinion, hope), not actions happening right now. They refer to usual/general situations.
c) No, we don't normally use the Present Continuous with these verbs because they are stative verbs.
d) We use the Present Simple.
e) From the list: like, love, hate, prefer, understand, believe, need, smell, know, want. (The verbs think and hope are already given.)
