What is global warming?

Global warming is the long-term rise in Earth's average temperature. It's mainly caused by human activities like burning fossil fuels (coal, oil, gas), which release greenhouse gases such as carbon dioxide (CO₂) into the atmosphere. These gases trap heat from the sun, making the planet warmer — much like a greenhouse.

This warming leads to melting ice caps, rising sea levels, more extreme weather (heatwaves, storms), and harm to ecosystems. Scientists agree it's a serious problem that needs urgent action to reduce emissions.
