Present / Past pairs (as in a fridge check):

  1. Present: There is a carton of milk in the fridge.
    Past: There was a carton of milk in the fridge yesterday.

  2. Present: There are two tomatoes on the middle shelf.
    Past: There were two tomatoes on the middle shelf last night.

  3. Present: There isn’t any cheese in the drawer.
    Past: There wasn’t any cheese in the drawer this morning.

  4. Present: There are some strawberries in a plastic box.
    Past: There were some strawberries in a plastic box last weekend.

  5. Present: There’s a pizza on the top shelf.
    Past: There was a pizza on the top shelf yesterday evening.

  6. Present: There aren’t any eggs left.
    Past: There weren’t any eggs left on Monday.

  7. Present: There’s some butter next to the jam.
    Past: There was some butter next to the jam earlier today.

  8. Present: There are a few lemons in the door.
    Past: There were a few lemons in the door last week.

  9. Present: There’s a bottle of orange juice on the bottom shelf.
    Past: There was a bottle of orange juice on the bottom shelf yesterday morning.

  10. Present: There are leftovers from dinner in a container.
    Past: There were leftovers from dinner in a container on Tuesday.
