Hi [Friend’s Name],

Thanks for your letter! You asked me about ecological issues in my region, so I’ll try to answer подробно и по порядку.

  1. What ecological problems are there in your region?
In my region the biggest ecological problem is air pollution. It becomes especially noticeable in the cold season, when many people heat their homes and the air gets heavier. Another source is traffic: in the big streets there are often traffic jams, and the exhaust fumes make the air worse. Besides, there is also the problem of waste. Not everyone sorts rubbish, and too much plastic and mixed waste ends up in landfills. In some places we also have pollution of rivers and lakes because of litter and sometimes because of wastewater issues. Finally, I’d mention the loss of green areas: when cities grow, some trees are cut down for new buildings or roads, and that affects the local environment.

  2. Do we need to care about the nature?
Yes, definitely. I think we need to care about nature because it’s not something “separate” from people — it directly affects our health and quality of life. Clean air means fewer respiratory diseases, clean water means fewer health risks, and green spaces help with stress and make cities more comfortable. Also, nature is not endless: if we keep using resources irresponsibly, future generations will have fewer opportunities and worse living conditions. Even small personal actions matter, because when many people change habits, it becomes a real social shift.

  3. How can the government solve the problem of air pollution?
In my opinion, the government can do a lot if it works systematically. First, it should control industrial emissions more strictly: modern filters, inspections, real fines for violations, and transparent public reports. Second, it can improve public transport so that people don’t rely on cars so much: more buses/trams/metro lines, better schedules, cleaner vehicles, and affordable tickets. Third, it’s important to support electric transport by building charging stations and offering incentives for electric cars and buses.
Another step is to reduce pollution from household heating: the government can encourage energy-efficient buildings, subsidies for cleaner heating systems, and programs to replace old, dirty-burning stoves. Finally, the city should protect and expand green zones — trees and parks don’t solve everything, but they help improve air quality and make the environment healthier.

That’s how things look from my side. I’d love to hear about the situation in your region too!

Best wishes,
[Your Name]
