Last Saturday started like any other. I woke up late, ate breakfast, and planned to spend the whole day playing video games. But my mom had other ideas. She asked me to take our dog, Rex, for a walk in the park. I grumbled a bit, but I went.

The park was quiet. Rex was sniffing around when suddenly he started barking and pulling me toward some bushes. I thought he saw a squirrel, but then I heard a tiny whimper. I pushed the branches aside and found a small, shivering puppy. It was alone, with no collar, and looked scared.

I didn't know what to do. I picked up the puppy and carried it home. My mom helped me give it some water and a blanket. We posted a photo on a local lost-pets group online. Within an hour, a girl called. She was crying with joy because the puppy, named Button, had been missing for two days. She came over with her dad, and when Button saw her, his tail wagged so fast it was a blur. The girl hugged me and said I was her hero.

That day, I didn't play any video games. But I felt better than any high score could make me feel. I learned that sometimes the best adventures happen when you least expect them.
