The Little Red Hen and the Wheat (retelling)

Once upon a time, there was a little red hen who lived on a farm. One day she found some grains of wheat. She wanted to plant them and grow wheat, so she asked the other animals on the farm to help her.

“Who will help me plant the wheat?” asked the little red hen.

“Not I,” said the cat.

“Not I,” said the dog.

“Not I,” said the duck.

“Then I will do it myself,” said the little red hen.

She planted the wheat and took care of it. After some time, the wheat grew tall and golden. The little red hen asked the animals again:

“Who will help me cut the wheat?”

“Not I,” said the cat.

“Not I,” said the dog.

“Not I,” said the duck.

“Then I will do it myself,” said the little red hen.

She cut the wheat and then asked:

“Who will help me make flour from the wheat?”

Again, all the animals refused to help. The little red hen did the work herself.

After that, she asked:

“Who will help me bake bread?”

The animals still did not want to help. So the little red hen baked the bread by herself. The bread smelled delicious.

Finally, she asked:

“Who will help me eat the bread?”

The animals quickly said, “I will! I will!”

But the little red hen said, “No, you did not help me with the work, so I will eat the bread myself.”

She shared the bread only with her little chicks. The other animals learned that it is important to work hard and help others.
