I'm going to join a youth language camp this summer. We are going to speak only in French! Do many Russian kids study French at school? What foreign languages are taught at school? Why have you chosen English? What do you do to master the language?

Dear Mike,

Thank you for your letter. Many Russian children study French at school, but English is the most popular foreign language. Some schools also teach German, Spanish, Chinese and other languages.

I have chosen English because it is useful for travelling, studying and communicating with people from different countries. To master the language, I read short texts, learn new words, watch videos in English and try to speak as often as possible. I also do grammar exercises and listen to English songs.

It is exciting that Eddy starts school this year. Is he happy about it? What subjects will he study? Has he already got a school bag and books?
