A Day That Changed My Mind

Last spring, our class visited an animal shelter outside the city. I expected a boring school trip because I had never been interested in animals. The building looked old, and the yard was muddy after rain. However, the volunteers welcomed us warmly and gave us simple jobs.

My task was to clean cages and fill bowls with water. At first, I was afraid to touch the dogs, but a quiet brown puppy came closer and wagged its tail. Its trust made me feel responsible. I understood that shelters need money, time, patience, and care.

After lunch, we walked dogs in a nearby park. I was given the brown puppy, Lucky. He pulled the leash, stopped to smell every tree, and looked at me with bright eyes. By the end of the walk, I was laughing instead of worrying about dirt.

On the way home, I decided to volunteer there once a month. I could not take Lucky home, but I could help him and other animals feel safer. The visit taught me that even a small action can improve someone’s life. Since then, I have paid more attention to people and animals needing help.
