John Lennon
John Lennon was a wonderful singer. He wrote songs and music. He had many hit songs.
John was born in Liverpool, a big English city, in 1940. When he was five years old, he went to live with his aunt Mimi and uncle George, but his mother often visited him.
When John became older, he became interested in rock and roll — a new and very unusual type of music from America, which John heard on the radio. His aunt Mimi gave him a guitar as a present and John played it all the time.
In 1957, John started a band. They played at school dances and parties. John asked Paul McCartney and his friend George Harrison to play with him when he met them at one of the concerts. John and Paul started to write songs together and soon became popular. They gave a new name to their band — The Beatles.
